In my book Beautiful Lives there is a three-legged dog named Outlet who smiles. I wrote him in for excellent dramatic reasons, of course, but also because I am a sucker for a dog that smiles.

My dog, Lexi, isn’t really a smiler. More often than not, the camera captures her sad-eyed hound dog expression (which I suspect is a calculated attempt to get sympathetic humans to feed her). In any case, I was happy to catch her happy this time.

I checked around, and there seems to be somewhat of a debate on the question, so I’ll post it to you. Does your pet smile?
